CLARKE Willis "Ted"

Willis "Ted" Edgar Clarke was born on 25th March 1884
in Glatton, Hampshire, England. In 1910 he immigrated with his brothers Ernest William (Died Mouchet Farm, France 1916 AIF) and Brother Hugh died Gnowangerup 1967 aged 85, to Western Australia.
Willis married Emily Matilda Jordan from Port Pirie in South Australia, in 1919. The speculation is that Willis and Emily were married on a Wednesday because that was the day of the train service from Gnowangerup to Katanning.
His first job was at "Clear Hills", then owned by Davis Bros. From that day to the day of his death he seemed to be dogged with ill-fortune and though on his passing he was not very richly endowered with the goods of this world, he was ever a keen horseman and a good showman in the ring events, always being ready to promote the interests of the Agricultural Society.
Willis bought a property west of Gnowangerup which they called 'Camballup'.
On the 18th August 1942 Willis was accidentally buried alive in a gravel pit, and later died in hospital from internal injuries.  This left Emily to care for their four children: Maud, Edgar, Hugh and Lucy. He is buried at the Gnowangerup cemetery. He was 58 years old.
Emily never re-married, and died at Nazareth House in Hamilton Hill, WA. Emily died at the age of 86 on the 9th March 1976, and is buried at Fremantle cemetery.
